The Polyglot’s Awakening: A Song Across Borders

The deck of the Perseus was a cacophony of ambition. Senku was hunched over a blueprint of the globe, his fingers tracing the trade routes of a world that hadn't existed for three thousand seven hundred years. Ryusui was snapping his fingers, shouting about the necessity of labor and the beauty of human greed, while Gen attempted to soothe the egos of the power team.

"We have a slight logistical nightmare, Senku-chan," Gen noted, tapping his chin with a deceptive air of nonchalance. "We’re heading to the Americas, then Europe, then likely the Middle East. Even with my psychology and your science, we’re going to hit a wall. The language barrier isn't just a hurdle; it’s a fortress. Most of the people we revive won't speak Japanese or modern English."

Senku smirked, picking at an ear. "Ten billion percent true. I can read technical manuals in five languages, but navigating the nuances of a local dialect to convince a confused stone-age survivor not to spear us? That’s a drag."

"I might have a solution for that," a calm, melodic voice interrupted.

Ukyou Saionji stepped forward from the shadows of the mast. His yellow coat caught the sea breeze, and his expression was as serene as ever, though there was a flicker of something uncharacteristically nervous in his eyes.

"Oh? Our master sonarman has a lead?" Ryusui boomed, throwing an arm wide. "Speak up, Ukyou! If there is a talent we lack, we shall acquire it!"

"It’s not someone we need to acquire," Ukyou said softly. "It’s someone I’ve already found. I’ve been keeping her safe since shortly after Tsukasa revived me. I didn't mention it because... well, the war was ongoing, and I wanted her far away from the fighting. I chose a spot where the vegetation wouldn't crush her and the erosion was minimal."

The deck went silent. Chrome blinked, his jaw dropping. "Wait, 'her'? Ukyou, are you saying you have a girlfriend?"

"A girlfriend?!" Zenitsu-like shrieks erupted from the younger members of the crew.

Gen’s eyes widened, his fan freezing mid-flick. "Ukyou-chan... you’ve been holding out on us. I consider myself an expert on people, and I didn't see a single romantic tell on you."

Ukyou rubbed the back of his neck, a faint blush creeping up his cheeks. "I’m a pacifist, Gen. I don't like to broadcast my vulnerabilities. But if we are going to rebuild the world, we need Maeko. Before the petrification, she was a linguistic prodigy. She can speak, read, and write in over thirty languages, including several rare dialects from the Amazon and the Steppes."

Senku’s eyebrows shot up. "Thirty? That’s not just smart; that’s a biological anomaly. She’s a living Rosetta Stone."

"She’s much more than that," Ukyou said, his voice turning firm and protective. "She’s kind, she’s brilliant, and she’s the person this New World needs if we’re going to unite everyone. I’ll lead you to her. She’s hidden in a cave system near the old coastal ruins."

The journey to the site was filled with relentless teasing from Ryusui and Gen, but Ukyou took it with his usual grace, his focus entirely on the horizon. When they finally reached a secluded, ivy-draped grotto, Ukyou led them inside with a torch.

There, nestled in a natural alcove shielded from the elements, stood a statue. Even in stone, Maeko Sano was breathtaking. She had been frozen in a moment of quiet contemplation, her hands clasped loosely in front of her. Her features were delicate and refined, radiating an aura of intelligence and gentleness that seemed to permeate the dusty air of the cave.

"She’s... wow," Kohaku whispered, lowering her daggers. "She looks like she’s just having a peaceful dream."

Ukyou stepped forward, his hand trembling slightly as he touched the stone cheek of the woman he loved. "I came here every week during the Tsukasa era," he murmured, almost to himself. "Just to make sure the moss hadn't started to grow."

Senku handed over the vial of miracle fluid. "Calculations are done. Let’s bring the translator online."

Ukyou poured the fluid over her head. The gray crust began to spiderweb and crack, the sound of breaking stone echoing like a rhythmic heartbeat in the small cave. As the flakes fell away, warmth returned to her skin.

Maeko gasped, her lungs filling with air for the first time in millennia. She stumbled forward, and Ukyou was there instantly, catching her in his arms.

"Ukyou?" her voice was raspy, a soft melody struggling to find its pitch. She looked up at him, her dark eyes swimming with confusion and then, recognition. "The sky... it turned green. I thought..."

"I know," Ukyou whispered, tucking a strand of her newly freed hair behind her ear. "It’s been a long time, Maeko. But you’re safe. I’ve got you."

The reunion was so heartfelt that even Ryusui stayed silent for a full minute. Eventually, Senku stepped forward, clearing his throat.

"Sorry to ruin the moment, but we’ve got a world to save and ten billion things to do. I’m Senku, head of the Kingdom of Science. Your boyfriend says you’re a walking dictionary."

Maeko blinked, leaning against Ukyou as she took in the eccentric group. She saw the primitive clothes, the advanced tools, and the sheer spark of life in their eyes. A small, knowing smile graced her lips. "I see. You’re rebuilding civilization. And you’ve run into a Tower of Babel problem, haven't you?"

"Precisely!" Gen chirped, stepping forward. "I’m Gen, a mentalist. And you are a godsend, Maeko-chan. We’re about to set sail for the entire world."

Maeko looked at Ukyou, who nodded encouragingly. She straightened her posture, her eyes sharpening with the brilliance Ukyou had described. "If you are using science to bring peace and restoration, then there is no place I would rather be. Language is the bridge between hearts, Senku-san. I will build those bridges for you."

The months that followed were a whirlwind of salt spray and construction. The Perseus became a floating city of its own, but the real work happened on land.

Their first major stop in North America was a revelation. As the power team began the grueling work of extracting materials for the "Corn City," they revived the first batch of locals—people who had been trapped in stone near the old urban centers.

Panic was the natural first instinct. A group of revived survivors, speaking a mix of English and Spanish, backed away from Taiju’s overwhelming energy, their faces pale with terror. They saw the strange technology and the weapons of the Kingdom of Science and saw invaders, not saviors.

"They think we’re demons or a rival tribe," Kohaku noted, her hand on her sword hilt. "I don't want to hurt them, but they’re looking for rocks to throw."

"Maeko," Ukyou called out.

Maeko stepped forward, bypassing the warriors. She didn't carry a weapon; she carried a basket of fresh fruit and a look of profound empathy. She began to speak.

The sounds that left her mouth were fluid and rhythmic. She shifted seamlessly from English to a local Spanish dialect, her tone soothing and melodic. She explained the petrification, the passage of time, and the goal of the Kingdom of Science. She didn't just translate words; she translated the spirit of their mission.

The survivors slowed down. An older man, who had been holding a jagged piece of slate, lowered his arm. He spoke back, his voice cracked with age.

Maeko listened intently, nodding. She turned back to Senku. "He’s worried about his family in the next sector. He says if we help him find them, he will show us where the richest soil is."

"Heh, a fair trade," Senku grinned. "Tell him he’s got a deal."

As the city began to rise—a marvel of timber and early electrical grids—Maeko became the heart of the settlement. She spent her days moving between the labor camps and the kitchens, teaching the revived locals how to use the new tools in their own languages, while simultaneously teaching the Kingdom of Science members basic phrases to foster goodwill.

Ukyou watched her from the lookout tower, his bow slung over his shoulder. He could hear her voice from hundreds of yards away, a beacon of peace in a world that had been silent for too long.

"She’s incredible, isn't she?" Gen said, appearing beside him. "You didn't just find a translator, Ukyou. You found the glue that’s going to hold this global empire together."

"I just wanted her to be happy," Ukyou replied softly. "In the old world, she was always stressed, flying from summit to summit, trying to stop conflicts before they started. Here... she’s actually building something that lasts."

The mission continued across the Atlantic. In South America, Maeko navigated the complex indigenous languages of the Amazonian survivors, helping them integrate with the scientific team to gather rare minerals. In every location, the pattern repeated: Senku provided the brain, Ryusui provided the drive, and Maeko provided the soul.

She became known as the "Voice of the New World." When they reached the ruins of a Mediterranean port, the local survivors were initially hostile, a group of former sailors who were ready to fight for their territory.

Maeko stepped onto the docks before the Perseus had even finished mooring. She spoke to them in a dialect of Italian that was archaic but understood, her hands open and welcoming. Within an hour, the sailors were helping Yuzuriha sew sails for the new fleet.

That evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the Mediterranean in shades of gold and violet, Ukyou and Maeko found a moment of solitude on the cliffs overlooking the budding city.

"Are you tired?" Ukyou asked, handing her a canteen of water.

Maeko took a sip and leaned her head on his shoulder. "A little. My throat aches from talking, but my heart is full. Did you see the little girl today? The one from the stone forest? She spoke three different languages to her new friends while they were playing. The barriers are falling, Ukyou."

Ukyou wrapped an arm around her, pulling her close. "I used to listen to the world through my headphones, hearing only the sounds of movement and threats. Now, because of you, I’m actually hearing what the world has to say."

Maeko looked up at him, her eyes bright. "We’re not just rebuilding cities, are we? We’re rebuilding the human family."

"With science and a lot of talking," Ukyou joked, kissing her forehead.

"Ten billion percent," she teased, mimicking Senku’s catchphrase with perfect inflection.

They laughed together, the sound carrying over the bustling construction site below. In the distance, the glow of Senku’s newly installed streetlights flickered to life, illuminating a city where dozens of cultures were learning to speak the same language: the language of the future.

As the Kingdom of Science prepared to set sail for the next continent, they knew the road ahead was long. There would be more statues to find, more elements to mine, and more people to wake. But with Maeko Sano at the helm of communication, the world no longer felt like a collection of scattered tribes. It felt like a map waiting to be completed, one word at a time.
