The Friction of Being Real
The air in the bedroom felt heavy, thick with the scent of the lavender oil Mizuki had fetched from the nightstand. The transition from the clinical tile of the bathroom to the yielding softness of their bed had been seamless, a silent agreement between two people who had spent years learning the geometry of each other's needs.
Mafuyu lay prone on the white sheets, her cheek pressed against the fabric. The cool air of the room bit at her exposed skin, but the sensation was quickly overridden by the weight of Mizuki settling between her thighs. The mattress dipped, and for a moment, the only sound was the rhythmic, slightly labored breathing of a woman who had carried the weight of the world on her shoulders all day and was finally letting it drop.
"You're always so tight, Mafuyu..." Mizuki’s voice was a low vibration, barely more than a murmur against the stillness.
Mafuyu’s fingers curled into the sheets, her knuckles turning white. The sensation of the oil was slick and viscous, a sharp contrast to the friction of Mizuki’s fingers as they worked within her. It wasn't just the physical intrusion; it was the intent behind it. Mizuki wasn't just touching her; she was claiming space, anchoring herself to the reality of their life together after a day spent drifting in the performative fog of the outside world.
"Is it... uncomfortable?" Mafuyu asked, her voice muffled by the pillow. She didn't move to pull away. If anything, she arched her back slightly, the movement causing the shiny waist beads to clatter softly against the skin of her hips.
Mizuki let out a shaky breath, her thumb tracing the curve of Mafuyu’s hip, smearing a trail of oil over the pale skin. "No. Never uncomfortable. It just feels like... like you’re holding onto me. Even when you aren't trying to."
Mizuki’s right hand moved with a slow, deliberate cadence. The oil reduced the harshness of the friction, turning the act into something sliding and rhythmic. Mafuyu felt the heat rising in her chest, a slow-blooming warmth that defied her usual cool composure. She wasn't used to this level of deliberate focus. Usually, their intimacy was a quiet affair, a series of gentle touches and soft words before sleep. Tonight, there was a desperation to Mizuki—a need to be submerged in the physical reality of her wife.
"I want to see your face," Mizuki whispered.
Mafuyu shifted, pushing herself up on her elbows and turning her head. Her hair, still caught in the scrunchie, had begun to fray, dark strands clinging to the sweat on her neck. Her eyes, usually so guarded and vacant, were wide, reflecting the dim light of the bedside lamp.
Mizuki looked down at her, her pink hair falling forward to veil her face. Her dress shirt hung open, the fabric stained with droplets of oil where she had reached for the bottle. She looked disheveled, beautiful, and utterly human.
"You look so present right now," Mizuki said, a small, sad smile touching her lips. She withdrew her fingers slowly, the sound of the slick movement loud in the quiet room. She didn't stop, however. She reached for more oil, her palms rubbing together with a wet, squelching sound before she pressed them against the small of Mafuyu’s back.
Mafuyu shivered. "The oil is warm."
"I held the bottle in the water for a second while you were setting the bath," Mizuki admitted, her voice cracking slightly. She began to knead the muscles of Mafuyu’s lower back, her movements firm. "I wanted everything to be perfect. I wanted to make sure you felt every bit of this."
"I do," Mafuyu replied, her eyes closing as she leaned into the sensation. "I feel you everywhere."
Mizuki moved her hands upward, tracing the line of Mafuyu’s spine until she reached the heavy curves of her breasts. She reached around, her oiled palms sliding under them, lifting and weighing them as she had done moments before in the bathroom. This time, however, there was no "blank expression" from Mafuyu. Her breath hitched, and she reached back, her own hands finding Mizuki’s forearms, gripping them as if to steady herself.
"Yuki," Mizuki breathed, leaning down so her lips were inches from Mafuyu’s ear. "I had such a long day. Everyone wanted something from me. Everyone wanted a version of me that isn't real. But here... with the oil, and the beads, and you... I don't have to pretend."
"You don't," Mafuyu agreed, her voice gaining a rare edge of intensity. "You are just Mizuki. And I am just Mafuyu."
Mizuki’s teeth grazed the shell of Mafuyu’s ear before she moved to her neck, just as she had asked. She began to leave a trail of damp, lingering kisses along the sensitive tendon. The scent of the lavender was intoxicating, mixing with the natural, musky scent of their bodies.
Mafuyu’s head fell back, resting against Mizuki’s shoulder. The waist beads shifted again, the tiny glass spheres clicking like a countdown. She felt the slickness of the oil between her thighs, the way it pooled and cooled, creating a sensory map of where Mizuki had been.
"Mizuki," Mafuyu whispered, her voice trembling. "More. I want to feel... more of that friction."
Mizuki didn't need to be told twice. She shifted her weight, sliding her body down so she could press her chest against Mafuyu’s back. The silk of the dress shirt was a strange, cool texture against Mafuyu’s skin, soon dampened by the oil. Mizuki reached down again, her movements more urgent now, guided by the soft sounds Mafuyu was making—sounds that weren't quite moans, but weren't quite silence either.
"I love how you react to me," Mizuki murmured, her fingers finding that wet channel again, deeper this time. "I love that I’m the only one who gets to hear you breathe like this. Like you’re actually catching your breath for the first time all day."
Mafuyu’s eyes were unfocused, staring at the white headboard. The world had shrunk down to the size of this bed, the heat of Mizuki’s skin, and the rhythmic slide of oil-slicked fingers. For someone who had spent so much of her life feeling like a ghost haunting her own body, the blunt, physical reality of this was overwhelming. It was a grounding cord, tying her to the earth.
"It’s... a lot," Mafuyu gasped, her hips stuttering in a small, involuntary circle.
"Is it too much?" Mizuki asked, immediately slowing her pace, her thumb pausing its rhythmic pressure.
"No," Mafuyu said, reaching back to pull Mizuki closer, her fingers tangling in the damp pink locks of her hair. "Don't stop. I need to know... I need to know I'm here."
Mizuki’s expression softened into something profoundly tender. She increased the pace, her hand moving with a wet, rhythmic friction that drew a sharp, high-pitched keen from Mafuyu’s throat. Mizuki buried her face in the crook of Mafuyu’s neck, breathing in the scent of her, feeling the way Mafuyu’s heart hammered against her ribs like a trapped bird.
"You're here," Mizuki chanted against her skin, a mantra for both of them. "You're right here. With me. You're real, Yuki. You're so real."
The climax hit Mafuyu with the force of a physical blow. Her body stiffened, her toes curling into the sheets as a wave of intense, localized heat radiated outward from where Mizuki was touching her. She let out a long, shuddering breath, her eyes fluttering shut as the tension finally snapped, leaving her limp and trembling in Mizuki’s arms.
Mizuki didn't pull away. She slowed her movements, easing the transition, before finally withdrawing her hand. She reached for the edge of the sheet, pulling it up to cover Mafuyu’s shivering frame, before collapsing beside her, her dress shirt a ruined, oily mess.
They lay in silence for a long time, the only sound the distant hum of the city outside and the fading hiss of the bathwater down the hall, which had surely gone cold by now.
Mafuyu was the first to move. She turned onto her side, facing Mizuki. Her face was flushed, her eyes bright with a lingering trace of moisture. She looked at Mizuki’s hand—the one still glistening with oil and the evidence of their intimacy.
Without a word, Mafuyu reached out, taking Mizuki’s hand in hers. She looked at the fingers, then back at Mizuki’s tired, searching eyes.
"You said you wanted your fingers to be coated with me," Mafuyu said softly.
Mizuki’s face turned a brilliant shade of crimson, her usual bravado completely evaporated. "I... yeah. I did say that, didn't I?"
Mafuyu didn't tease her. Instead, she brought Mizuki’s hand to her lips, kissing the palm, tasting the salt and the lavender and the essence of their shared moment. "Thank you for coming home, Mizuki."
Mizuki felt a lump form in her throat. The exhaustion of the day, the stress of the deadlines, the weight of the "Mizuki Akiyama" persona she wore for the public—it all felt small compared to this.
"I'll always come home to you," Mizuki promised, her voice thick with emotion. She pulled Mafuyu into a tight embrace, not caring about the oil staining the sheets or the fact that they both desperately needed that bath now. "Even if I'm late. Even if I'm tired. I'll always find my way back."
Mafuyu tucked her head under Mizuki’s chin, her eyes finally drifting shut. The waist beads were still, the oil was cooling, and the room was quiet. For the first time all day, the silence didn't feel like a void. It felt like a sanctuary.
"The bath is going to be cold," Mafuyu noted, though she made no move to get up.
Mizuki laughed, a genuine, bubbling sound that finally reached her eyes. "We can just turn the heater back on. Or stay here. I think I like 'here' better."
"Me too," Mafuyu whispered.
And as the night deepened, the friction of the world outside ceased to matter, replaced by the gentle, steady rhythm of two hearts beating in sync, proving, in every way that counted, that they were both finally, truly real.
