The Girl in the Over-Sized Jersey

The Allianz Arena was a cauldron of noise, a symphony of chanting fans and rhythmic drumming that vibrated through the soles of everyone’s shoes. For months, the German tabloids and football Twitter had been spiraling into a frenzy of speculation. The "Bambi" of Bayern Munich, Jamal Musiala, was playing with a newfound spark, a certain glow that suggested his heart was occupied by more than just the ball at his feet. Rumors of a mysterious girlfriend had been swirling, but with no Instagram tags, no blurry paparazzi shots, and no sightings at the usual hotspots, the world was left guessing.

High in the VIP stands, Mimi shifted nervously in her seat. She felt tiny amidst the sea of red, her petite frame almost swallowed by the authentic Musiala jersey she wore. It was Jamal’s own shirt, one he had tucked into her bag that morning with a wink, and the hem reached halfway down her thighs. Her long, brown curls cascaded over her shoulders in wild, soft ringlets, framing a face that looked like it had been painted by a Renaissance master.

"You look like a doll, Mimi," Jamal had whispered before leaving for the locker room. "Don't be scared. Just watch the game. I’ll be looking for you."

Mimi clutched her small leather bag, her cheeks naturally flushing a deep, dusty rose under the bright afternoon sun. She didn't need makeup; her skin was porcelain-clear, and her large, doe-like eyes held an innocent, wide-eyed gaze that made her look younger than her years. She was here for Jamal, of course, but she couldn't deny the fluttering in her stomach for another reason. She had been a fan of Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappé for years, admiring their talent from afar. When Jamal told her they were playing Real Madrid, she had practically begged to come.

Jamal had agreed, though his eyes had darkened slightly at her enthusiasm for the opposition’s stars. He decided today was the day. If the world was going to see her, it would be on his terms—right in the middle of his territory.

As the whistle blew for halftime, the stadium screens began their usual sweep of the crowd. Usually, they focused on celebrities or fans in extravagant costumes. But today, the camera operator caught sight of a girl in the front row of the reserved section.

The giant screens suddenly flashed with Mimi’s image. She was mid-sip of her water, her eyes widening as she realized she was being broadcast to seventy-five thousand people in the stadium and millions more at home. She looked startled, her pink cheeks deepening in color as she tucked a stray curl behind her ear. She looked soft, ethereal, and completely out of place in the aggressive environment of a Champions League semifinal.

The stadium fell into a momentary, collective hush of awe before a roar of approval erupted. Within seconds, the clip was on Twitter. “Who is she?” “Musiala’s jersey?” “She’s literally a Disney princess.” The internet was already breaking.

Down in the tunnel, Jamal caught a glimpse of the screen on one of the monitors. His jaw tightened. He loved that she was beautiful, but he hated the way the cameras lingered on her. He wanted to hide her away, to keep that innocent gaze for himself, but he knew that to keep her, he had to claim her.

The second half was a masterclass. Jamal played like a man possessed, weaving through the Madrid defense with a lethal grace. When the final whistle blew and Bayern emerged victorious, the stadium exploded. But Jamal didn’t head straight for the center circle to celebrate with his teammates. Instead, he made a beeline for the stands.

Mimi stood up, her heart hammering against her ribs. She saw him coming—sweaty, triumphant, and focused entirely on her. He didn't care about the cameras following his every move. He reached the railing, reached up, and pulled her toward him.

"You stayed," he murmured, his voice thick with exertion as he pulled her into a firm hug.

"I wouldn't leave," she whispered into his shoulder, feeling the heat radiating off him.

He pulled back just enough to look at her, his hand possessively gripping her waist. He didn't let go. Instead, he took her hand, his large fingers interlacing with her small, delicate ones, and led her down onto the pitch. The cameras swarmed, flashes strobing like lightning, but Jamal kept her tucked close to his side, his body acting as a shield.

"Jamal, everyone is looking," Mimi whispered, her shyness beginning to take over as she saw the famous faces milling about.

"Let them look," he replied, his grip tightening slightly. "I want them to know."

As they walked toward the center, two figures approached them. Mimi’s breath hitched. Jude Bellingham was wiping sweat from his forehead with his jersey, looking disappointed but sportsmanlike, and Kylian Mbappé was walking beside him.

"Hey, Jamal," Jude called out, his eyes drifting to the girl attached to Jamal’s hip. He raised an eyebrow, a smirk tugging at his lips. "So, the rumors were true. You were hiding something."

Jamal didn't smile back. He pulled Mimi an inch closer, his arm draped firmly over her shoulders. "Jude, Kylian. This is Mimi."

Mimi felt like she might faint. "Hi," she squeaked, her face turning a vivid shade of crimson. "You both played really well. I’m a big fan."

Mbappé chuckled, his gaze softening at her obvious nerves. "Thank you, Mimi. It seems Jamal has the best prize of the night, even without the win."

"Can we... could we take a photo?" Mimi asked tentatively, looking up at Jamal for permission.

Jamal’s expression was stony for a split second. He didn't want a photo of her standing between two of the most famous men in the world. He didn't want her looking at them with those star-struck eyes. But he saw the hope in her face and relented.

"Fine," Jamal said, though he didn't move his arm from her shoulder.

A club photographer hurried over. The four of them stood together—the two Madrid stars, the Bayern hero, and the tiny, doll-like girl in the middle. Even in the photo, Jamal’s possessiveness was clear; he was angled toward her, his hand anchored on her hip, marking his territory while she beamed with shy happiness.

After the photos were taken and the Madrid players headed for the dressing rooms, Jamal led Mimi toward the media zone. He knew he couldn't avoid the flash interview.

The reporter was practically vibrating with excitement as Jamal stepped up to the microphone, Mimi still standing right beside him, holding onto his arm as if it were her only lifeline.

"Jamal, congratulations on the win," the reporter started, barely glancing at the stats on his clipboard. "But I think the whole world wants to know about your companion. The internet is already calling her the 'Angel of the Allianz.' Is this the mysterious girl we’ve been hearing about?"

Jamal looked down at Mimi, who was trying to merge into his side to escape the camera’s lens. A flicker of something dark and protective crossed his eyes.

"This is Mimi," he said, his voice deep and final. "My girlfriend."

"She’s stunning, Jamal. The fans are already in love," the reporter teased. "Why have you been hiding her all this time? Are you afraid she’ll distract you from the pitch?"

Jamal felt a surge of irritation. He didn't like the way the reporter said in love. He didn't like the idea of thousands of men staring at her photo on their phones.

"She’s very shy," Jamal said, choosing his words carefully, though his hand squeezed her waist. "She’s not used to the public attention, and I wanted to protect her privacy for as long as possible. She’s special, and I don't feel like sharing her with the world."

The reporter smiled, sensing the tension. "Fair enough. A protective boyfriend, then?"

"You could say that," Jamal replied, his gaze turning sharp. "We’re going now."

Without waiting for another question, he steered her away toward the private exit. The headlines were already writing themselves: Musiala Goes Public, The Doll of Munich, Jamal’s Secret Revealed.

Once they reached the quiet of the hallway leading to the player’s lounge, Mimi let out a long breath. "That was intense. I think I’m shaking."

Jamal stopped and turned her to face him, pinning her gently against the cool stone wall. He looked down at her, his eyes scanning her face, looking for any sign that she enjoyed the attention from the other players too much.

"Did you like meeting them?" he asked, his voice low.

"Yes! They were so nice," Mimi said, her eyes bright. "Jude is so tall in person, and Kylian—"

She stopped when she saw the look on Jamal’s face. His jaw was set, and there was a possessive glint in his eyes that she only saw when they were alone.

"You’re wearing my jersey, Mimi," he reminded her, his hands sliding up to cup her face. "My name is on your back. Everyone saw that today."

Mimi realized then that he wasn't just being protective; he was jealous. She reached up, placing her small hands over his. "I know whose jersey I’m wearing, Jamal. I only wanted the photo because I was proud to be there with you. You were the best player on that pitch."

The tension in his shoulders bled away, replaced by a smoldering intensity. He leaned down, pressing his forehead against hers.

"Good," he whispered. "Because I’m not as nice as Jude or Kylian when it comes to what’s mine. I don't like sharing, Mimi. Not even a look."

"I’m not a trophy, Jamal," she teased softly, though her heart was racing at his tone.

"No," he murmured, his lips brushing against hers. "You’re much more dangerous than that. Now let’s get you home before I have to fight off the rest of the world."

He took her hand again, his grip firm and unyielding. As they walked out to his car, Mimi realized that while the world might have finally seen her, she belonged to a man who had no intention of letting her go. The mystery was over, but for Jamal, the battle to keep her all to himself had only just begun.
