The Shattered Mirror and the Phoenix’s Return

The transition from life to death was not a tunnel of light, nor was it the peaceful sleep Harry Potter had expected after fifty-eight years of a "canon" life. Instead, it was a cold, liminal grey space where the air tasted of ozone and ancient parchment.

Harry stood there, his aged joints suddenly feeling fluid and light. He looked down at his hands, seeing the wrinkles of a grandfather, the scars of a Savior, and the wedding band that suddenly felt like a shackle of lead.

"Master," a voice vibrated through the floorboards of reality.

Death did not look like a skeleton in a cloak. It was a shifting mass of shadow with eyes like dying stars. "You have returned to me. But you have returned having lived a lie so profound it offends the very fabric of Fate."

Harry frowned, his Auror instincts sparking. "A lie? I lived my life. I defeated Voldemort. I married Ginny, I had kids—"

"You lived a script written by a man who feared the dark because he could not control it," Death countered, stepping closer. The shadow-hand touched Harry’s forehead, and the world exploded.

The truth poured into Harry like molten silver, burning away the compulsions that had sat on his soul for decades. He saw Tom Riddle, not as a monster, but as a brilliant young man with a dominant basilisk inheritance, his mind twisted by Albus Dumbledore’s subtle blocks. He saw the Knights of Walpurgis—not evil, merely Dark—turned into screaming caricatures of themselves.

He saw his own parents. He saw the truth of his birth. He wasn't the son of James and Lily Potter. He was Hadrian Black-Gaunt-Prince, a child born of a magical triad between Tom Riddle, Severus Snape, and Regulus Black, stolen from a magical incubator and placed with the Potters to be a sacrificial lamb.

He saw Sirius and Remus, his "uncles," who were never meant to be Gryffindor bullies. Sirius, a submissive hellhound, and Remus, a dominant werewolf, had their natures inverted and their minds clouded to make them Dumbledore’s loyal hounds.

"They are waiting for you, Hadrian," Death whispered. "The cycle is broken. I am sending you back to the pivot point. The graveyard. The moment the cup is touched."

Death pressed a cold, heavy crystal ball into Harry’s hands. "This is the Echo of Truth. Smash it, and the fog will lift for all who breathe its mist."

The world jerked. The smell of rotting leaves and damp earth hit Harry—no, Hadrian—with the force of a physical blow. He was fourteen again. His knees hit the grass of the Little Hangleton cemetery. The Triwizard Cup rolled away, glowing faintly blue.

"Kill the spare," a high, cold voice commanded.

"No!" Hadrian roared, his voice cracking with the puberty he had already lived through once. He didn't wait for Cedric to react. He didn't wait for the green light. He stood up, his eyes burning with a sudden, fierce emerald fire that wasn't just magic—it was the awakening of his submissive dark phoenix core.

He raised the crystal ball high and slammed it onto the headstone of Tom Riddle Senior.

CRACK.

A violent, shimmering violet mist erupted from the glass, expanding in a shockwave that defied the laws of physics. It swept over Peter Pettigrew, who shrieked as he hit the ground, his rat-like features contorting as the Dumbledore-placed spy compulsions shattered. It swept over the bundle in Peter’s arms—the homunculus holding the fractured soul of Tom Riddle.

And then, it hit the Death Eaters who were just beginning to Apparate into the circle.

Silence fell over the graveyard, heavy and suffocating.

In the center of the clearing, the small, twisted form of the Dark Lord began to shake. The red eyes bled into a rich, deep ruby, and the serpentine features smoothed. The madness that had plagued Tom Riddle for decades evaporated like morning dew.

"My head..." Tom hissed, but it wasn't a threat. It was a realization. He looked at his hands—small, weak, and monstrous—and then he looked at the boy standing before him.

Hadrian didn't look like a victim. He stood tall, his magic radiating a dark, comforting warmth.

"Lord Voldemort," Hadrian said, his voice steady. "Or should I say... Father?"

Lucius Malfoy, who had just landed, fell to his knees. Unlike the others, his eyes weren't clouded. He and Narcissa had been the only ones left untouched by the memory charms, forced to watch their friends turn into monsters while they played the part of loyal followers to a madman.

"Hadrian?" Lucius whispered, his voice trembling. "You... you know?"

"I know everything, Lucius," Hadrian said.

Tom Riddle, his mind finally clear, looked at Lucius, then back at the boy. The dominant basilisk within him roared in recognition. This was his fledgling. His blood. "Dumbledore..." Tom’s voice was a low, dangerous growl. "He made me... he made us all..."

"He made you a monster so he could be the hero," Hadrian finished. He turned his gaze to the shadows where Barty Crouch Jr., disguised as Moody, was hidden by the edge of the wards. "Barty! Come out. The game is over."

The man who looked like Alastor Moody stepped forward, his magical eye spinning wildly. Hadrian stepped toward him, his hand glowing with a spark of Death’s own power. He touched Barty’s chest, snapping the final threads of the Imperius and the mental blocks Dumbledore had layered over the years.

"Go," Hadrian commanded Barty. "Go to the Manor. Evan Rosier is waiting. He’s been healed. The Dark Lord is back—the real Dark Lord. Not the monster Dumbledore created."

Barty’s eyes cleared, filling with a desperate, frantic hope. He nodded once, his face twisting with emotion, and vanished in a crack of Disapparition.

"We have to go," Hadrian said, turning to Tom and Lucius. "Dumbledore will be expecting a tragedy. We give him a show, but we move in the shadows."

The weeks that followed were a whirlwind of secret reunions and shattered chains. While Hadrian returned to Hogwarts to play the role of the "traumatized Savior," the real work happened at Malfoy Manor.

Tom, Severus, and Regulus were reunited in a storm of magic that nearly leveled the manor’s west wing. When the three mates finally stood in the same room, their magic snapping together like a puzzle, Lord Death intervened one last time. He stripped away the years of abuse and the degradation of the Horcruxes.

Tom stood tall, his skin pale but healthy, his ruby eyes glowing with intellect and possessiveness. Severus, no longer the sallow, bitter spy, stood with the grace of a dominant dark veela, his shoulders broad and his spine straight. And Regulus, pulled from the cold depths of the cave and reanimated by Tom’s desperate magic, looked every bit the submissive kelpie he was—ethereal, loyal, and fierce.

In the drawing room of Malfoy Manor, the air was thick with the scent of sandalwood, rain, and power.

Hadrian stood in the center of the room, having been "rescued" from the Dursleys by his true family. He looked at the three men who were his parents, his heart finally feeling whole.

"Draco," Hadrian called out.

The young Malfoy stepped forward. In the weeks since the graveyard, Draco’s own creature inheritance had flared to life. He was a dominant dragon, his silver-blond hair shimmering with a metallic sheen. He walked straight to Hadrian, his eyes darkening with possessive heat.

"My mate," Draco murmured, pulling Hadrian into his arms.

Hadrian leaned into him, his dark phoenix purring in his chest. "I’m sorry it took me a lifetime to find you, Draco. The blocks... I hated you because I was told to."

"I knew," Draco whispered, burying his face in Hadrian’s neck. "I felt the bond screaming every time you looked at me with that forced hatred. I’ll never let you go again."

Tom watched his son with a mixture of pride and simmering rage at what had been stolen. "We have much to undo," he said, his voice echoing through the room. "Sirius and Remus?"

"In the guest wing," Severus replied, his hand resting firmly on Regulus’s waist. "The blocks were... extensive. Dumbledore had turned the hellhound into a common dog and the dominant wolf into a cowering beast. But they are recovering. They remember everything now."

A door at the end of the hall swung open. Sirius Black stumbled out, looking younger, his eyes no longer sunken with the madness of Azkaban. Behind him walked Remus Lupin, his amber eyes glowing with the steady, calm light of a dominant werewolf who was finally in control of his shift.

"Reggie?" Sirius gasped, seeing his brother standing there, alive and whole.

Regulus didn't hesitate. He broke away from Tom and Severus, throwing himself into his brother’s arms. "I’m here, Siri. The mist... it broke the spells. I’m so sorry I couldn't save you sooner."

Remus stepped forward, his gaze locking onto Sirius. The bond between them, long suppressed by Dumbledore’s compulsions to make them "light" and "compliant," snapped back into place with the force of a gale. Sirius turned in Regulus’s arms, reaching for Remus. The hellhound and the wolf collided, a submissive and a dominant finally finding their equilibrium.

"It’s all of us," Remus said, looking around the room at the gathered Dark. "The whole circle. We’re finally awake."

"And Dumbledore has no idea," Tom said, a smirk playing on his lips—a real smirk, full of charm and malice. "He thinks he is playing a game of chess. He doesn't realize the board has been flipped."

Hadrian stepped forward, slipping out of Draco’s hold just long enough to stand before his fathers. "He thinks I’m his weapon. He thinks the Weasleys are my family. He doesn't know that Molly and Arthur have been skimming my vaults, or that Ron and Hermione were paid to be my friends."

Severus’s lip curled in a familiar sneer, but this time it was directed at the true enemy. "The Headmaster will pay for every year he kept you from us, Hadrian. For every night you spent in that cupboard while your true home was here."

"Master Draco’s Harry is needing tea!" a house-elf squeaked, appearing with a tray.

Draco let out a low, rumbling growl of approval at the title, pulling Hadrian back against his chest. "Yes, he is. And he needs rest. We all do."

As the groups began to retire to their rooms, the atmosphere in the manor shifted. It wasn't the cold, fearful place of the previous timeline. It was a fortress.

In the master suite, Tom, Severus, and Regulus moved as one unit. The triad was the anchor of the Dark, and as they settled into the massive bed, the dominant basilisk and veela curled around their kelpie, their magic intertwining in a protective cocoon.

"We have him back," Regulus whispered, his voice thick with tears. "Our son is home."

"And we will burn the world down before we let them touch him again," Tom promised, his ruby eyes flashing in the dark.

Down the hall, in a room draped in emerald and silver, Draco held Hadrian. The dragon and the phoenix were finally at peace.

"You’re really here," Draco muttered into the darkness, his arms wrapped tightly around Hadrian’s waist. "This isn't a dream?"

Hadrian turned in his arms, pressing his forehead against Draco’s. "No dream. Death gave me a choice, Draco. I chose you. I chose all of you."

"Good," Draco rasped, his dragon scent—smoke and expensive spice—filling Hadrian’s senses. "Because I’m never letting you back into that castle without me. We play the part, we act the role, but when the time comes... we end him."

"Together," Hadrian agreed.

Outside the manor, the moon hung high and silver over the grounds. The war was coming, but for the first time in two lifetimes, the players knew exactly who they were. The Savior was gone, replaced by a Prince of the Dark, and the Dark Lord was no longer a monster, but a father seeking vengeance.

Dumbledore’s "Light" was about to face a darkness it had created—a darkness that was no longer blinded by blocks and lies, but fueled by the purest, most dangerous force in the wizarding world: a family reclaimed.
