Measured in Inches
It took Nini far too long to realize that her boyfriend had a size difference kink.
Looking back, the signs had been plastered in front of her face in bright neon lights, yet she had somehow managed to overlook every single one of them. She had simply assumed Jamal was affectionate in that slightly clumsy, puppy-dog way athletes often were. He was a professional footballer, naturally tall at a lean six feet, blessed with long limbs that earned him his famous agility on the pitch. Nini, by contrast, barely scraped five-foot-two on a generous morning, possessing a delicate, petite frame and an unruly mane of dark brown curls that made her look even smaller whenever she tucked her knees to her chest.
Their physical contrast had always drawn teasing remarks from friends and family. When they stood side by side, the top of her head barely cleared his collarbone. If she stood on her tiptoes, she could just barely press her cheek to his jaw without him needing to bend his neck. It was cute, classic, and entirely normal.
At least, she had thought it was normal.
The first real clue had come three months into their relationship, on a lazy Sunday morning in his Munich apartment. Nini had rolled out of bed, shivering against the chill of early autumn, and blindly grabbed the first article of clothing she could find on the floor. It happened to be Jamal’s heavy grey training hoodie. On him, it sat comfortably loose over broad shoulders and a runner’s torso. On her, it was essentially a knee-length dress. The cuffs swallowed her hands completely, leaving only the tips of her manicured fingers peeking through the frayed fabric.
When she shuffled into the kitchen to start the coffee, Jamal had frozen by the refrigerator, carton of almond milk halfway to the counter.
She had laughed, holding up her hands to let the empty sleeves flop absurdly. "I’m borrowing this. You could fit two of me in here, honestly."
She had expected him to chuckle and tease her about drowning in his wardrobe. Instead, Jamal’s dark eyes had dropped from her face down to the hem of the sweatshirt, his gaze slow, intense, and unmistakably hungry. A faint, telltale flush had crept up his neck, dusting his cheekbones. He had swallowed hard, set the milk down with deliberate care, and crossed the tiles in three long strides.
Without a word, he had gathered the excess fabric at her hips, pulling her flush against him so that she felt the hard, sculpted lines of his chest and thighs. He had looked down at her—really looked down, his chin tilted at an angle that made his height painfully apparent—before murmuring against her hair that she was never allowed to take it off.
At the time, Nini had simply thought he found the sweater cute.
Then there was the kitchen incident a month later. She had been stretching on the tips of her bare toes, straining every muscle in her calves trying to reach a box of chamomile tea on the highest shelf of the pantry. She was muttering curses under her breath when broad, warm hands had suddenly settled on her waist.
Jamal’s fingers had wrapped around her ribs, his thumbs nearly touching at her spine, his long fingers spanning the entire front of her midriff. Before she could squeak in surprise, he had lifted her straight into the air like she weighed nothing more than a bag of groceries.
"Jamal!" she had gasped, clutching his forearms for balance.
He hadn’t immediately set her on the counter. Instead, he had held her suspended in midair for several long seconds, his biceps bunching slightly, his face pressed against her neck where her brown curls tumbled loose. His breathing had been thick, almost ragged. When he finally placed her on the edge of the granite island, he didn't step back. He stepped between her thighs, his hands smoothing firmly up her bare thighs to her hips, his chest towering over her even while she was seated.
"You're so light," he had whispered, his voice dark and gravelly. "I could carry you around with one arm."
"I am an adult woman, not a toy," she had retorted playfully, tapping his nose.
"A tiny one," he had countered, pressing a kiss to the hollow of her throat that left her breathless and dizzy.
Still, the penny hadn’t fully dropped.
It wasn't until a rainy Thursday afternoon, after Jamal returned from a grueling tactical session at Säbener Straße, that the full picture snapped into vivid, undeniable focus.
Nini was sitting in the corner of the living room sofa, her legs curled under her, reading an article on her tablet. She had freshly washed her hair, letting the tight brown spirals fall freely around her shoulders, framing her small face. She was wearing a pair of tiny cotton shorts and another one of his oversized vintage Bayern tees, which sagged off one shoulder to reveal her delicate collarbone.
The front door clicked shut. A moment later, Jamal appeared in the doorway, shedding his team jacket and throwing his gym duffle onto the floor. He looked tired, lines of fatigue etched around his hazel-brown eyes, but the moment his gaze found her, the exhaustion evaporated, replaced by that familiar, smoldering focus.
"Hey, stranger," Nini smiled, setting her tablet down. "How was training?"
Jamal didn't answer immediately. He walked across the hardwood with that quiet, prowling athlete’s gait, toeing off his trainers on the rug. He stood directly in front of the sofa, looking down at her. He didn't sit. He just stayed there, casting a long shadow over her curled-up frame.
"Tiring," he murmured, his voice low.
"Come sit down, then. I’ll make you—"
Before she could finish, Jamal reached down, hooked his hands beneath her armpits, and scooped her effortlessly off the cushions.
Nini gasped, her arms instantly looping around his neck to anchor herself. Her legs naturally banded around his waist. "A warning would be nice!"
"Don't need one," he muttered, carrying her over to the armchair. He collapsed into the deep leather seat, settling her firmly onto his lap.
He didn't let her shift into a separate position. Instead, he pulled her back flat against his broad chest, tucking her neatly between his thighs. His long legs stretched out, and his large arms encircled her completely, his hands resting heavily over her stomach. He looked like an enormous bear hoarding a tiny, fragile treasure.
Nini leaned her head back against his shoulder, smiling as his chin rested naturally atop her curls. "You're very clingy today."
"Just missed you," Jamal said. His tone was soft, but his hands were already moving, tracing the outline of her body.
He slid one hand down to her wrist, loosely curling his long fingers around the delicate bone. His thumb and index finger overlapped by nearly an entire knuckle. He squeezed gently, then slid his palm flat against hers, spreading their fingers.
Nini looked down. Her hand was practically doll-sized against his. His fingers were long, calloused from lifting weights, with broad palms that completely swallowed hers.
Jamal let out a low, appreciative hum from deep in his throat. "Look at that."
"What?"
"Your hands," he murmured, his breath warm against her ear. "They’re ridiculous, Nini. So tiny."
He didn't just say it as an observation. There was a reverent, possessive cadence to his words that made a strange flutter ignite low in her stomach.
"They're normal hands, Jamal," she said, her voice wavering slightly. "You're just huge."
"Am I?" He gave a soft, dangerous chuckle that vibrated right through her spine.
Without moving his chest, he shifted his grip, sliding his large hand down her thigh to her ankle. He circled her ankle with just his thumb and middle finger, his fingertips easily meeting around the slender joint. He slowly stroked his thumb over her skin, his eyes locked onto the sheer contrast of his golden skin against hers, his sheer mass making her appear profoundly delicate.
And suddenly, every piece of the puzzle fell into place with the force of an oncoming freight train.
The way he always preferred carrying her to letting her walk. The way he stared whenever she wore his clothes. The constant hand-measuring, the way he hovered over her in bed, the low groans he let out whenever she complained about a shelf being too high, the way his eyes dilated whenever he trapped her against a wall and realized he could block her entire line of sight just by leaning in.
Nini turned her head slightly to look at him, her dark curls brushing his jaw. "Wait."
Jamal paused his caressing, raising an eyebrow. "What?"
"You..." She bit her lower lip, heat instantly rushing up to her ears as the realization cemented itself. "You really like this, don't you?"
A slight twitch appeared at the corner of his lips. "Like what?"
"This," she said, gesturing vaguely between her small frame and his massive one. "The fact that your hand can cover my entire stomach. The fact that I look like a toddler in your shirts. You... you have a thing for it."
Jamal didn't flinch. For a split second, a boyish, charming bashfulness crossed his features, the shy smile he often gave to journalists after scoring a brace. But it vanished quickly, replaced by the darkened, intense expression of a grown man who had been caught red-handed and decided he didn't care.
"And what if I do?" he asked, his voice dipping an octave, rumbling against her back.
Nini’s breath hitched. "It took me eight months to figure it out!"
"Then you’re a little slow, sweetheart," Jamal teased softly, his lips brushing the shell of her ear, sending goosebumps rippling across her arms. "I haven't exactly been hiding it."
"You haven't been talking about it!"
"Didn't think I needed to," he murmured.
Slowly, deliberately, Jamal gripped her hips and lifted her again, spinning her around so she was straddling his lap, facing him. The change in perspective was startling. Up close, his broad shoulders blocked out the rest of the room. His chest was wide, rising and falling with heavy, rhythmic breaths, while his large hands remained anchored to the small curve of her waist, effortlessly holding her in place.
"Look at you," he whispered, his eyes dragging down her neck, over the oversized collar of the jersey, down to the bare, slender thighs resting on either side of his muscular legs. "You fit so perfectly against me. Every time I pick you up, you feel like you were made to be held onto."
Nini’s heart was hammering against her ribs, loud and frantic. "Jamal..."
"You're so small, Nini," he continued, his tone thick with undeniable longing, utterly unapologetic. He brought one hand up, lightly pressing his open palm against the side of her face. His long fingers stretched from her temple all the way down past her jawline, practically cupping half her skull in one gentle grip. "I can cover your whole chest with one hand. I can wrap my arms around you twice. When we're in bed, you practically disappear under me."
A shudder ran through her, purely electric. "Does that turn you on?"
His hazel eyes darkened until they looked almost black. "Drives me insane," he admitted bluntly. "Has since the day I met you. You tried to reach that book on the top shelf at the cafe, bouncing on your toes, looking so angry at the world because you couldn't reach it. I walked up behind you, grabbed it without even trying, and you turned around looking up at me like I was a skyscraper."
He leaned in closer, his forehead resting gently against hers, his thumbs stroking the soft skin just above her hipbones.
"I wanted to throw you over my shoulder and take you home right then," he whispered.
Nini swallowed hard, her pulse thumping wildly in her throat. She had never heard him speak with such raw, unfiltered hunger. On the pitch, he was composed, graceful, almost ethereal in his movements. Here, in the quiet of their home, he was pure, grounded, heavy masculine gravity.
"You're lucky I think it's hot," she murmured, a wicked little smirk breaking through her blush.
Jamal’s eyes flared. "Do you?"
"I mean," she purred, boldly placing her tiny hands flat against his broad pectorals, feeling the hard, heavy thump of his heart beneath her palms, "knowing that my big, strong footballer gets off on making me feel tiny? Yeah. I think I can work with that."
A slow, predatory grin spread across Jamal’s handsome face. "Good."
Before she could react, he stood up from the armchair. He didn't ask her to get off; he simply scooped his arms under her thighs and stood, effortlessly hoisting her full weight into his chest as if she were weightless. Her legs naturally gripped his waist, her hands clinging to his broad shoulders.
"Jamal!" she laughed, her stomach doing a delightful backflip.
"Hold on, little one," he said smoothly, carrying her through the living room and down the short hallway toward the bedroom.
He didn't rush. He walked with a steady, confident stride, adjusting her in his grip so she was tucked flush against his torso. Every bounce of his step reminded her of the disparity between them—his raw, athletic strength against her feather-light frame.
When they reached the bed, he didn't throw her down. He placed her in the center of the mattress, then slowly, deliberately crawled over her, boxing her in. His long arms framed her head, his hands planted firmly into the mattress, effectively caging her beneath his broad silhouette. He hovered inches above her, his sheer size blocking out the ambient light of the room.
Nini looked up at him, her dark curls splayed out across the white pillows like an ink spill. She looked tiny, fragile, and utterly breathtaking beneath him.
Jamal reached down, grasping the hem of his oversized jersey that she was wearing, slowly bunching the fabric in his large hands. His gaze held hers, thick with heat and a dark, intoxicating reverence.
"I think," Jamal murmured, his voice dropping into a husky, teasing rasp, "you're definitely going to need to borrow my clothes more often."
Nini smiled, threading her small fingers into his short, dark hair and pulling him down to her lips.
"Only if you promise to take them off me," she whispered.
And as Jamal pressed his full, heavy weight against her, laughing quietly against her mouth before kissing her with breathless intensity, Nini decided that being small had never felt so powerful.
