A Wolf in Velvet

To the millions of fans who screamed his name in sold-out stadiums across the globe, Jeong Yunho was the closest thing to sunshine human skin could harbor. He was the gentle giant of ATEEZ, the sweetheart with a wide, puppy-eyed smile, the pillar who laughed easily and hugged his members until their bones popped. On stage, he transformed into an arresting force—six feet of fluid grace, executing complex choreography with deceptive ease while throwing out smoldering, half-lidded glances that sent social media into synchronized cardiac arrest. ATINY adored him for that duality: the soft-spoken boy next door who turned into an insatiable heartthrob beneath the arena lights.

It was an exquisite, airtight illusion.

Behind the closed doors of backstage dressing rooms and private green rooms, Jeong Yunho was an absolute terror.

He was stubborn, razor-tongued, relentlessly demanding, and had a fuse so short it practically sparkled on contact with the slightest inconvenience. He possessed an obsessive perfectionism that spared no one, least of all the exhausted staff members who walked on eggshells whenever his jaw was set at an angle sharper than usual. The world thought he was easygoing; the agency's creative department knew he was a walking minefield.

Right now, that minefield was primed to detonate.

"Are you out of your mind?"

The voice cracked through the bright, fluorescent-lit dressing room of the Gangnam studio like the snap of a bullwhip.

The junior stylist, a petite woman named Minji who had only been with KQ for four months, visibly flinched. She stood by the rolling garment rack, clutching a velvet hanger as if it were a shield against an advancing predator.

Yunho stood in the center of the room, clad only in black silk dressing pants and a thin undershirt. His arms were crossed over his broad chest, his knuckles white against his biceps. His dark hair was already meticulously styled into messy, damp-looking waves that brushed against his temples, but the expression on his handsome face was ugly with contempt.

"Am I seriously wearing this?" Yunho demanded, his voice dropping into a low, vicious register that made the hair on the back of Minji's neck stand up. "Am I an idol or a sex object?"

"Yunho-ssi," Minji stammered, her gaze darting frantically toward the door. "It’s... it’s the approved concept for the second editorial spread. The magazine's visual director specifically—"

"I don't give a damn about the visual director," he cut in, stepping forward. He was tall enough to cast a looming shadow, and he knew precisely how to use his height to intimidate. He snatched the garment from the rack with a sharp yank of his wrist, holding it up between two fingers like it was a piece of rotting garbage.

The garment in question was an insult to the word clothing. It consisted of a sheer, web-like mesh long-sleeve top, completely transparent, paired with an intricate harness crafted from glossy black leather. The straps were designed to buckle tightly across his collarbones, slice down his pectorals, and wrap snugly around his ribs, leaving virtually nothing to the imagination. It was designed to expose every inch of his torso, every contour of muscle, framed aggressively like meat on display in a butcher’s window.

"Look at this," Yunho sneered, shaking the sheer fabric in her face. "It’s practically dental floss and leather. What happened to the tailored Saint Laurent blazer we discussed during the styling meeting on Tuesday? The slate-gray one with the deep lapel?"

"The creative team decided it was... too conventional for the twilight theme," Minji whispered, shrinking back against the rack of clothes. "They wanted something raw. Seductive."

"Seductive?" Yunho let out a dry, humorless bark of laughter. "This isn't seductive. It’s cheap. It’s tacky. I look like I’m auditioning for a sleazy cabaret show in an alleyway, not fronting an international luxury editorial. I am not putting this garbage on my body."

He balled up the mesh top and threw it onto the vanity table, where it knocked over a bottle of foundation before settling into a pathetic heap beside a row of makeup brushes.

The door to the dressing room swung open with a muffled click.

Manager Kang walked in, holding a clipboard in one hand and an iced Americano in the other. He didn't even have to look at the scattered items on the vanity to know what was happening; he had managed Yunho for five years, and the sound of Yunho’s voice when he was in a mood was a distinct frequency of misery.

"Minji-ssi," Kang said smoothly, nodding toward the hall. "Give us five minutes. Go check on San's shoe fitting."

Minji bowed so fast she nearly lost her footing, scrambling out the door and pulling it shut behind her with a sigh of profound relief.

The silence left in her wake was thick and hostile.

Yunho didn't back down. He spun around, leveling his glare directly at his manager. "You knew about this."

"Of course I knew about it," Kang replied calmly, setting his iced coffee down on the corner of the table, far away from the discarded harness. "I was in the sign-off meeting. You saw the mood board last week, Yunho."

"The mood board had dark lighting and textured fabrics!" Yunho fired back, pacing the small room like a caged panther. "It didn't have me parading around completely naked with dog leashes wrapped around my chest! I agreed to an artistic spread, Kang. I didn't agree to be whored out because the magazine wants cheap engagement from horny teenagers on the internet!"

"Watch your mouth," Kang said, his voice dropping low, firm and unyielding. "You're twenty-five years old, not a rookie who just walked off the street. Lower your voice before someone in the hallway records you throwing a tantrum."

"It’s not a tantrum, it’s a boundary!" Yunho snapped, wheeling around to face him. His eyes burned with genuine fury. "Every single comeback, every single photoshoot, it gets worse. A little more skin here, a lower neckline there, sheer fabric under hot studio lights until I might as well not wear anything at all. I dance eighteen hours a day to perfect our stages. I sing until my vocal cords bleed. But when it comes to promotional work, none of that matters, does it? Just strip Jeong Yunho down and sell his abs to the highest bidder!"

Kang let out a slow, measured breath. He crossed his arms and looked at the younger man. He knew Yunho’s triggers. Yunho wasn't just difficult for the sake of being cruel; he was difficult because he possessed an almost pathological terror of losing control over his own narrative. But right now, there was no room for psychological sympathy. The clock was ticking.

"Are you finished?" Kang asked.

Yunho’s chest heaved. He clamped his mouth shut, jaw muscles ticking.

"First of all," Kang began, stepping into Yunho’s personal space until their eyes met, "nobody is reducing you to anything. You’re on the cover of this issue because you’re Jeong Yunho of ATEEZ. Because your name sells copies. Because your visual presence is commanding. Second of all, you signed the contract for this campaign three weeks ago. The concept was finalized with the chief editor. The set is built. The photographer charges by the hour, and we are currently twenty minutes behind schedule because you decided to have a meltdown over a shirt."

"It isn't a shirt, it’s netting," Yunho hissed.

"It is high fashion," Kang corrected bluntly. "And you are an idol under exclusive contract to KQ Entertainment. You are wearing it."

"No." Yunho crossed his arms tighter, stubbornness hardening like concrete in his spine. "I refuse. Call the stylist back in here. Tell her to pull the alternate look. I'll wear the sleeveless silk shirt or the unbuttoned jacket, but I am not wearing this."

Kang stared at him for a long, agonizing moment. The silence dragged on until the hum of the fluorescent bulbs felt deafening.

"You really want to play this card today, Yunho?" Kang asked quietly.

Yunho didn't blink. "Try me."

"Fine," Kang said, reaching into his pocket and pulling out his phone. He unlocked it with a practiced swipe of his thumb. "I’ll call the executive director right now. I’ll tell him that Jeong Yunho refused to shoot the primary editorial concept because he feels the wardrobe is beneath him. I’ll tell the magazine's editor-in-chief that we're canceling the cover shoot. The agency will absorb the breach-of-contract penalties. We’ll issue a statement saying you had a sudden health issue."

Yunho’s eyes narrowed. "You wouldn't."

"I would," Kang said, his voice devoid of emotion. "And tomorrow morning, you can explain to Hongjoong and the rest of the members why the group’s quarterly marketing budget took a massive hit, and why the brand ambassadorship deal they were considering you for just went to someone from Stray Kids or TXT. Because make no mistake, Yunho: the industry does not reward divas who throw fits over wardrobe thirty minutes before call time. You want to act like an amateur? I will treat you like one."

Kang raised the phone to his ear, letting it ring.

The silence that followed was suffocating.

Yunho’s hands twitched. Every instinct in his body screamed at him to snatch the phone out of Kang’s hand and smash it against the concrete floor. He wanted to scream, to break something, to tear the rack of designer clothes off its wheels and smash the full-length mirrors. The sheer humiliation of being managed, of being put in his place like an unruly child, made his blood run hot with acidic resentment.

He looked at Kang’s impassive face. He saw the cold, unyielding reality of the machinery that governed his life.

He was trapped. And he knew it.

"Hang up," Yunho choked out.

Kang kept the phone to his ear. "What was that?"

"I said hang up the damn phone!" Yunho snarled, his voice trembling with barely suppressed rage.

Kang slowly lowered the phone and tapped the red button. He slid it back into his pocket, his face betraying neither victory nor satisfaction.

"You have ten minutes to get dressed and get to the set," Kang said quietly. "Minji will help you adjust the straps. If you give her one more ounce of attitude, I will have a very long conversation with the company board about your conduct."

Without waiting for a response, the manager turned on his heel and walked out, pulling the door firmly shut behind him.

Yunho was left standing alone in the room.

A violent shudder ran through his frame. He turned toward the vanity table and swept his arm across it, sending a container of makeup sponges and several hair clips scattering across the floor with a clatter. He leaned his hands heavily against the edge of the counter, his head hanging between his shoulders, his breath coming in ragged, shallow gasps.

He hated this. He hated the vulnerability of it, hated that behind the polished facade of the untouchable idol, he was ultimately merchandise to be packaged and sold.

With trembling fingers, he reached out and picked up the sheer mesh top.

The fabric felt impossibly light, cool and insubstantial against his calloused palms. Gritting his teeth so hard he could hear his molars grind, he peeled off his undershirt and dragged the mesh over his head. It clung to his skin like a dark, transparent film, hugging the broad breadth of his shoulders, outlining every rib, displaying the smooth, sculpted plains of his chest and abdomen with brazen clarity.

Next came the leather harness. The buckles clinked together, cold against his hot skin. He fumbled with the straps, his hands shaking with fury as he fastened the heavy leather across his collarbones and cinched the sides tight against his ribs. The leather bit into him, constricting his breathing, forcing his chest forward and his posture erect.

When he looked up into the mirror, the person staring back was unrecognizable.

He looked dark, sinful, and undeniably dangerous. The sheer fabric darkened his pale skin just enough to accentuate the shadows of his muscle; the glossy leather gave him the aura of a captive predator. It was intoxicatingly sexual, magnetic, and completely devoid of the warmth that fans associated with Jeong Yunho.

The door creaked open again. Minji crept in, eyes downcast, carrying a bottle of shimmering body oil and a powder puff.

"Yunho-ssi..." she whispered nervously. "May I?"

Yunho didn't look at her. He didn't speak. He simply stood rigid, staring at his reflection with cold, dead eyes as she approached.

With trembling hands, she applied a light sheen of oil to the exposed expanse of his collarbones and shoulders, highlighting the sharpness of his structure beneath the harsh vanity lights. She adjusted the leather straps so they laid flush against his skin, quickly patted powder along his jaw, and immediately took three steps back.

"They're... they're ready for you on Set B," she murmured.

Yunho closed his eyes for three long seconds.

In those three seconds, he performed the ritual he had perfected over seven grueling years. He took the venom pooling in his throat, the sharp edges of his temper, the humiliating sense of exposure, and he locked it into a steel vault deep behind his ribs. He didn't let the anger dissipate—instead, he compressed it, pressurized it, transformed the burning fury into pure, unadulterated stage presence.

When he opened his eyes, the petulant, furious young man was gone.

In his place stood Jeong Yunho, the main dancer of ATEEZ.

He stepped out of the dressing room and walked down the dimly lit hallway toward the sound of thumping electronic music and the chatter of the production crew. As he pushed through the heavy black curtain into Studio B, the room fell conspicuously quiet.

The stage was dressed in dark crimson velvet drapes, surrounded by faint ribbons of mist curling from a dry-ice machine. Harsh, dramatic key lights were angled down toward a low velvet chaise lounge.

Several female staff members standing near the monitor stopped talking mid-sentence, their eyes widening as they took in his appearance. Even the male lighting technicians shifted on their feet, startled by the sheer visual impact of his entrance.

The photographer, a renowned Italian-Korean creative named Jo, took the camera away from his face and let out a low whistle. "God damn, Yunho. Look at you. That’s exactly what I wanted."

Yunho didn't offer his usual sunny smile. He kept his expression cool, enigmatic, a faint, almost mocking smirk playing at the corner of his lips.

"Let's get this over with, Jo-ssi," Yunho said smoothly, his voice silky, rich, and effortlessly charming. "I don't like keeping genius waiting."

The photographer chuckled, charmed by the playful arrogance. "Take your mark on the chaise. I want you leaning back on one elbow, legs long. Give me something heavy, Yunho. You're royalty who has had everything, tasted everything, and you're bored of it. You're looking at someone you want to destroy."

Yunho walked onto the platform, his boots thudding softly against the wood. He reclined onto the dark velvet chaise, propping his weight on his left forearm. The leather straps strained over his chest with the movement; the sheer fabric pulled taut across his stomach. He tilted his chin upward, letting the bright, white spotlight carve the planes of his cheekbones out of the dark.

He looked directly into the camera lens.

And in that lens, he didn't see the camera. He saw his manager. He saw the agency. He saw the ruthless demands of an industry that wanted to consume him whole.

His eyes narrowed. A dark, predatory heat flared in his gaze—seductive, insolent, completely lethal. His lips parted just a fraction, breath catching in his throat as he gave the lens an expression so intensely intimate, so raw with untamed hunger, that the monitor operator gasped.

Click. Flash.

"Yes!" Jo shouted over the beat of the music, leaning into the viewfinder. "Holy shit, Yunho! Hold that! Chin down just a millimeter—yes! Look right at me like that!"

Click. Flash. Click.

Yunho shifted, rolling his shoulder forward, letting the leather harness pull against the sculpted muscle of his back. He let his right hand trail slowly down the side of his neck, his fingers brushing against his pulse point, his hooded eyes burning into the glass of the lens. Every movement was calculated, every micro-expression crafted to devastate. He gave them the sex object they wanted, but he infused it with such sheer, dominating authority that it felt less like submission and more like an execution.

"Brilliant! Beautiful! Give me that smirk again—god, the fans are going to lose their minds over this!" Jo cried, firing off shutter clicks in rapid succession.

From the shadows near the catering table, Manager Kang stood with his arms crossed, watching the monitor. A small, knowing smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth.

On the velvet couch beneath the blazing heat of the lights, Jeong Yunho held his breath, held the pose, and let the camera drink in his manufactured desire.

The world would see this image in three weeks. They would call him a god. They would call him stunning, bold, breathtakingly sensual. They would scream his name until their throats were raw, entirely blind to the venom coursing beneath the leather, never realizing that the fire burning in his gaze wasn't passion at all.

It was war.
